Cover for Torch This Place We Know, for the “multimedia” square of the cover artist bingo 2020.
Several bits from social media, kind of like a feed. A Sportsnet tweet about Marner being traded to Pittsburgh, an email to Auston, a tumblr post about a coffeeshop AU, an ao3 blurp containing info about the story. All except the last one are from the story. Under that, speech bubbles from a text conversation.

This one nearly did have the title+credits on it, but I kind of like the idea of leaving it out of the cover, and the solution I’d found to add them (one of the text bubbles to the front) didn’t work as well as I wanted. So.
Font: FreeSans. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to use it for all of the different bits, just slightly squishing or stretching the length. Various elements from various social media websites.

Covers for Coming back for even more, for the “different versions” square of the cover artist bingo 2020.
Both covers have the same composition: the title and credits at the top, in negative space in a large white rectangle. The main tags in the same cursive as the credits, below. The background of the first one is a close up of a flower, edited to be dark blue and dark pinkish red, blending together. The background of the second is light faux wood, and for that one, the first word of the title (Coming) is in white. Aaaand shit, I forgot to delete the white text at the bottom from the other cover, so it’s kind of fading into the background but still there.

How the heck to convey fucking through a cover? I’m not good at finding innocuous pics that, through composition, are dirty (look at enough pictures of strawberries for a porny cover and every fruit starts to look suggestive), and at first I couldn’t think of any element to latch onto in this pod, and my default for when I don’t know what to do for a cover is to go look at textures on unsplash and play around with fonts, and then I found the flower pic (I was also thinking of ways to fill that bloomsandfoliage.tumblr.com square, but sadly it didn’t pan out for this one), add too many filters, here we are. Apparently I have this idea that dark, low contrast, textured, bright colors is the way to go? (See also the cover for Body Language, literally the exact same thing.)
But the problem is, it doesn’t really work, and also, it doesn’t have any link to the podfic. And then I remembered the kitchen cabinets and hence the second cover.
I feel like I need to either commit to a code (food or flowers or hot pink or something to mean sex), or go do some research into porn advertising/smutty romance novels/whatever else already exists out there, or just focus on other elements (the mood, the setting, the characters, …), stick that E rated sticker on it and call it a day.

Fonts: Abril Fatface, Antigua Presidente. Images: cover 1, cover 2. Stickers: lemon rating stickers, cover artist bingo 2020 sticker.

cover art

Cover for This doesn’t look that much different from home, for the “bloomsandfoliage.tumblr.com” square of the cover artist bingo 2020.
Background is a close up of flower petals, colored in black and red, used as texture more than as an actual picture. Title and credits in opposite corners, in white, with a square frame running between the two.

Finally managed to fill that square! I don’t even care that the cover doesn’t fit the mood of the podfic, because I had no inspiration for it so of course I went with texture+team colors+fonts. I’m guessing the fancy serif font in the middle of the cover is the one that would need to go in order to make the whole thing at least a little less dramatic, but also, whatever. It’s pretty and that square is filled now.

Background image (before a bunch of filters): pink hydrangeas.
Fonts (from top left to bottom right): Palash, Candelion rough, Serif, Andamar.
